The happiest day of my life was the day I purchased my first multi-track recorder. I chose the popular TEAC Tascam 4-Track ’Porta-Studio.’ Previously, I’d had to save up money to go into a studio, and then would have to try to get everything right in about 5 or 6 hours - it was near impossible. Finally I could record, (albeit quite primitively at first), to my heart’s content - and my downstairs neighbor’s dismay.

A few months after buying the recorder, I got a job at a music store, and was allowed to take almost anything home -  guitars, keyboards, fx pedals, percussion, and keep them overnight.  I started recording all the time, and have never really stopped. Over the years I've bought better equipment and more instruments and I can get a pretty good sound.

The second happiest day of my life was when self-releasing albums (CDs) became affordable. Finally I didn’t have to wait for a label to sign me. I could afford to put out albums exactly the way I wanted to and control the artwork, song sequence, everything. I’ve never cared about the money - I just like having complete control over what I do with my music.

I started releasing albums about once a year. It took me a little while to learn to make an album that was more than just a collection of songs, but by about the fifth or sixth one, I started to get the hang of it. But the earlier ones all have songs and moments that I’m proud of, and I’ll always have an affection for all of them.

Below is a complete list of every album I’ve ever released.  They’re all self-released on my Bohemian Embassy label, with the exception of ’Long Distance Calling’ which was released by Passport/PolyGram. Most of these are available somewhere, somehow, if you care to dig. I plan on pressing a ’best of the earlier years’ kind of thing one of these days. We’ll see.
